The illusion begins as a standard Sub Trunk illusion, wherein the performer displays a trunk sitting atop a tabled platform. The magician is then handcuffed and climbs inside the trunk. Crouching down into the trunk, the latch is locked and the assistant raises a cloth covering that surrounds the trunk, and immediately the magician and assistant have changed places! The trunk is opened and sure enough, the assistant is now inside completely handcuffed! Oh, but that's not all. Not by a long shot!
The performer is chained and placed inside the trunk once more. Instantly, an 8-foot spike rack filled with 11 razor sharp spikes hanging ominously above the performer is put into place! Now the audience is on the edge of their seat...
The assistant comes out and begins to grind the cable, allowing the magician about a minute to escape before certain death. However, 30 seconds later the unexpected happens: the cable breaks prematurely and the spike rack comes crashing down inside the trunk. The audience is silent. Immediately, the front door of the trunk falls open to show a cabinet filled with spikes, but NO MAGICIAN! TWEEEEET! TWEEEEET! A whistle snaps the audience out of their trance, and in the back of the auditorium stands the magician, completely unharmed!
