Imagine this: you come home one afternoon to your normal house in your normal neighborhood to find a massive surprise; you have been selected to have part of your living space renovated and redecorated in a special theme and at a special price — free!

Welcome to the world of Monster House, the Discovery Channel program that’s been wowing people with its ingenious concepts and unusual constructions. Like its counterpart Monster Garage that transforms unsuspecting owners’ ordinary vehicles into incredible fantasies on wheels, Monster House adapts the shock-of-a-lifetime transformation concept to living quarters.

Here’s the premise of the reality show: someone who has a strong passion, an unusual career, or interesting hobby is selected to be the “victim” of the week. The unsuspecting subjects’ interests thus far have ranged from NASCAR racing to law enforcement to prehistoric dinosaurs. The show’s producer arrives on the scene and parks a motor home in front of the chosen family’s house. They are instructed that they will be living in the temporary quarters for a week and are not told anything about what’s being done — they just hand over their house keys. Furthermore, they are not allowed to come into the work area for any reason during the entire renovation period. The five-man building team has from Monday 7:00 a.m. until Friday midnight to finish their Monster House task, and not one second more. If the crew finishes before the deadline they win $4,000 in tools and $1,000 in cash. If the deadline passes and even one item is incomplete, they get zip. The big moment comes when the family is led out of the motor home and shown the changes to their hearty homestead. The levels of surprise and wonder elicited by these reveals make for a great show climax.

So…what happened?  Did Doug Malloy, and his team, finish on time?  Did the final blueprint designs make it from page to stage?  Did anybody end up totally freaking out?  Well…that would be telling, wouldn’t it?  But you can see every bit of the action and drama for yourself on Monster House episode #47, which is scheduled to air for the first time on the Discovery Channel on Friday, June 3rd , and be repeated throughout the week.  Check it out, turn green with envy, and marvel at the powers of the human imagination brought to magical life on reality TV.
